It's that time of the year when you look forward to revoking the SORN, checking the tyres, topping up the fluids, polishing up the bodywork and start to ENJOY your classic vehicle.
This year make the White Rose Classic Tour on Sunday 16th. June your 2013 MUST DO event. Get your entry in and encourage your friends to do likewise for this 'Father's Day' run. This year's tour will be timed at an average of less than 30mph giving time to admire the views, photograph your car in a picturesque location or stop to inspect objects that might be of particular interest to you. You will be joined by some visitors taking part in the Historic Rally Car Register Scenic Tours Series of runs. Don't worry they're not out in real rally cars!
The 2013 tour will start from Askern on the A19 Doncaster - Selby road. In the late 19th century Askern was famous for it's Spa with 5 bathhouses and a spa hydropathic establishment. People travelled from far and wide, by road and the new railway, to sample the water's healing properties.The modest entry fee of only £35.00 includes nourishing cooked breakfasts for you and your navigator as well as afternoon tea at the finish.
The tour will be of approximately 120 gentle miles on quiet roads in open countryside en-route to the Vale of York and the Howardian Hills.The route will be given in the traditional form of tulip diagrams with mileages and will be easy to follow. No navigational expertise will be needed. You will visit small market towns and villages in North Yorkshire before stopping for a picnic break at TBA North of York.
Resuming the tour after the lunch break, you will follow an easy route going west and then south back to Sherburn Airfield next to the former Mintex testing grounds. You'll drive along some delightful country lanes, visiting many old villages and places of interest.The finish is at the aero clubhouse for a tea/coffee and cake where you can relax, talk over the day's run with your old friends and new acquaintances, watch the aircraft movements or simply make your way home. |
